Backpacking across Europe is considered by many to be the adventure of a lifetime. Traveling from city to city, staying in hostels, if you are a casino and poker games enthusiast experiencing the grand architecture of ancient European casinos, and taking in all that an area has to offer is a life experience like no other. Let's take a look at a few destinations that you should consider visiting when backpacking and also some tips that can help you on a backpacking trip.
First, you need to decide where you would like to go on your backpacking trip around Europe. While it sounds a cliché, you almost have to go to Paris. The city of lights is full of culture and a life experience that every person should have. Another favorite is London. Just about everything in the city has a deep, rich history. Whether you fancy the many museums or are more of a pub hopper, you will always find something to do.
The Swiss Alps are a prime adventure regardless of whether you go in winter or in summer. You can hike during summer or hit the slopes during winter for some skiing. If you are a huge history buff, you should go to Berlin. In addition to learning a lot about World War II and taking part in its art and music scene, Berlin is also the nightlife capital of Europe.
Backpacking around Europe can be expensive and a bit of a challenge due to crime and people trying to take advantage of tourists. There are a few things that you can do to keep your costs down and keep yourself safe. First, find creative ways to eat when you are backpacking. Some hostels offer a free breakfast. If they do, be sure to eat your fill and maybe even grab a little something for later. If the hostel has a kitchen, pick up a couple things from a local market and prepare your own food. Sometimes you will be lucky and find some inexpensive street vendors offering food at good prices.
Next, bring a couple locks for when you are staying in hostels. Many will provide lockers for you, but they will not provide the locks. Also, do not keep all of your money in one place. Invest in a ‘spy wallet’ that you can put in a hidden compartment in your backpack. Also, consider carrying money in a place that is less likely to get robbed, like the inside of your socks. Finally, when you are backpacking around Europe you will save a ton of money by staying outside of many of the major cities that you visit. In many cases, you can find cheap modes of transportation back into the main city, such as in Rome, so taking the time and trouble to stay outside the main city may be beneficial to your wallet.
Before beginning your backpacking trip, do as much planning as you can in regards to places you want to see and even where you want to stay. There are many recommendations online, ranging from the best places to visit to the best hostels to stay in. There is no need to go into backpacking totally blind. Save your gambling for the baccarat tables when you get back from your trip. Plan smartly and you will have the trip of a lifetime backpacking through Europe.
