How many times have you been attempting a squat pee, perhaps with mountain-bike weary legs on a wet, slippery forest floor, trying to avoid being bitten on the bum by whatever fanged creature is waiting below, and thought ‘I wish I were a man’? Or had to use loos that have made you gag? A friend and I had this discussion recently, and as well as sharing endless horror stories, we realised we’d both stupidly developed a skill of drinking just enough water so we didn’t have to pee more than necessary, dicing with dehydration and our health.

Buff, the company best known for its revolutionary headgear, has launched a series of kit for adventure racers and runners, including t-shirts, running vests, shorts, tights and jackets, and I’ve had the Pink Lightning Tech T on test.
To touch, before you’ve even tried it on, the t-shirt is not appealing: it feels kind of shiny and sweaty (almost like a crisp packet was the consensus in the office), and not like something you’d want to run in at all. After a few miles’ jogging along the local canal I was slightly more convinced but still sceptical, so last night I gave it a pounding in a hot, sweaty gym. And now I’m convinced.

Many hardened adventurers will tell you that the best stoves for heating up your din dins in out-of-the-way destinations are alcohol burners. Fuel is available just about anywhere (as opposed to fuel for gas stoves), maintenance is kept to a minimum and their simple designs mean that they might just out live you.
The BCB Crusader Cooking System (SRP £49.25) is an alcohol stove and cook set for one person that was originally intended for use by the military (the camouflaged storage bag being a bit of a give-away), so for this reason it's been designed to be easy to use and maintain.

In from Tog 24 are the Constellation ski trousers, a three-layer pair of sallopetes with removable braces and an adjustable waist. They use Tog 24’s Milatex waterproof and windproof fabric to offer protection from melting snow and chilly winds. The salopettes can also be brought as part of a set with a matching jacket if you really want to look the part.
