Outdoor clothing specialist Gore has extended its baselayer range for cyclists and runners this winter, and the long-sleeved Thermo Shirt baselayer I have on test is making running in the freezing weather far more bearable.
There are three new baselayers in the range and all come in two versions, either with or without a Windstopper liner. My top comes with the lining and as promised it keeps the wind off while at the same time being breathable – I’ve never got too hot while running in it.
The outer layer is made from quite a thick polyproplyene, a light yet insulating fabric, and while a baselayer with two layers feels strange at first it’s definitely a good combination of extra warmth for the start of the run then sufficient moisture removal once you’ve got going. The material is also stretchy so the shirt fits well; my only complaint is that there’s no pocket to hide a house key in.
As well as the Functional Thermo Shirt Long, which costs £49.99, the other two new baselayers are the Base Layer (WS) Functional Shirt Long (£49.99) and the Base Layer Functional Turtleneck (£59.99), both of which are for slightly warmer conditions. See more at http://www.gorerunningwear.co.uk/.
