This summer the first photographic gallery in Britain to devote itself exclusively to mountains, travel and landscape exhibitions opened in Sherborne, on the Dorset/Somerset border. With almost 1,000 square feet of hanging area, there will be three new exhibitions in the gallery every four or five months. The three opening exhibitions are called Iconic Mountains, Lhasa and Kathmandu and Exploring the Antarctic Peninsular.
The Global Images Gallery will feature the work of photographer Michael Bromfield, who has led groups to over 6,500m on the slopes of Everest. “I have been fortunate to travel to many remote and famous mountain areas over the last 30 years, and I hope the free-to-enter exhibitions will give as much pleasure to visitors as taking the photographs did for me,” he says.

Following last year's superb TV ads, British outdoor brand Berghaus is rolling out the second phase of its Live For Adventure campaign. The company’s biggest advertisement campaign ever will combine national TV, cinema and print and is expected to reach 15 million people in the UK.
“After we launched the campaign last year, we witnessed a significant increase in awareness of the brand among the general public,” says Caroline Smith, Berghaus’s head of marketing for the UK and Europe. “I am confident that the latest phase of Live for Adventure is going to be even more successful than its predecessor and that it will drive more people to equip themselves for their own adventures.”

The Snowdonia Walking Festival, from 12-14 October, is offering you the chance to do so, with 12 guided walks at different locations in Snowdonia. Each one is led by a local, knowledgeable and experienced leader and will vary in distance, grade and time.
“Going on a guided walk is one of the best ways to learn about the history, geology, culture and biodiversity of the area while appreciating the beauty and special qualities of Snowdonia at the same time,” says National Park warden Dewi Davies, who will be one of the guides during the festival.

Following the success of Walking With The Wounded’s record-breaking trek to the North Pole in 2011, and their attempt on Everest this year, the charity has teamed up with wounded soldiers from the United States and three Commonwealth countries to compete in the South Pole Allied Challenge – a race to the South Pole.
Over four weeks in November and December 2013, three teams will race 15km to 20km a day across Antarctica, on a trek that’s 335km in total. Each team will have to endure extreme temperatures of down to -45°C, pulling custom-built artic sledges weighing more than 70kg among crevasses, moving ice-shelves, glaciers and snowstorms as they attempt to be the first to reach the southernmost part of the globe.
